The Bryan Family: Family Reunion

Today we attended the Durrance family reunion on my husband's father's side of the family. It's held in a nice air-conditioned (thank goodness!) community center just outside of Lake City, Florida. It was nice to see this side of the family again, although it seemed to be a smaller crowd this year.

Everyone commented about how big Nicholas was and someone thought he was 3 years old! I told them that he's just tall for his age. We always get comments on his blue eyes and his long eyelashes. We also got to have a test run of Nicholas' new booster seat. It worked out perfectly and he seemed really happy to sit at the table between his mommy and daddy. I was thrilled that me or Rick didn't have to try to hold him on our laps and feed him and ourselves at the same time.

After everyone was finished eating they have a mini-auction which helps to raise funds for next years' reunion. They auctioned off 2 handmade baby blankets and a beautiful teddy bear baby quilt which someone bought for $55.00. Also auctioned were canned green beans, pickled okra, fig jelly and I think canned pears. They also award prizes for the oldest living man, oldest living woman, person in the direct family line with the most number of family members in attendance, and youngest baby. It's usually a lot of fun, but people just didn't seem into the auction as much this year. They also had little bags for the kids which had a coloring book, crayons and sidewalk chalk.

While the mini-auction was going on Rick had taken some stuff out to the car and took Nicholas with him so that he could run around and burn off some energy. The community center has a nice big playground area, so Rick took Nicholas over to it to play for a while. Nicholas really had a lot of fun and Rick also got some cute pictures of him playing. It was a nice day but we were all pretty tired when we got home.
